His faith is characterized by several defining elements:Spiritual Leadership in the Clubhouse: Hicklen actively organizes team Bible studies and acts as a spiritual mentor to his fellow ballplayers.
The On-Field Baptism: In July 2024, while playing for the Triple-A Nashville Sounds, Hicklen famously baptized his teammate Wes Clarke right on the field in a horse trough after a game. Both players wore shirts reading "Jesus Won".
Identity Outside of Sports: In interviews, such as his appearance on the What Hope Sounds Like podcast, he frequently reiterates that his faith became personal during his college years. He teaches that athletes should view themselves as children of God first, ensuring their personal value isn't tied to batting statistics or career slumps.
Spiritual Preparedness: He frequently utilizes baseball analogies to share the Gospel, comparing the way a player prepares in the dugout to how Christians must "put on the armor of God" to face daily spiritual warfare.
