Chuba Hubbard is a devout Christian who frequently and publicly attributes his football career and life journey to his faith in God. As a star running back and team captain for the Carolina Panthers, his faith plays a massive role not only in his personal motivation but also in how he leads and mentors his teammates.
His faith impacts his life and the Panthers' locker room in several key ways:
Postgame Testimonies
Hubbard routinely redirects praise to his faith following standout performances. Following a major game, Hubbard and quarterback Bryce Young drew widespread attention when they gave all the glory to God during their postgame interviews. Hubbard simply stated, "God," emphasizing that he views his accomplishments as a direct reflection of divine blessing rather than personal strength.
Locker Room Mentorship and Brotherhood
Hubbard has become a vital spiritual leader for younger players on the team, particularly fellow running back Jonathon Brooks. Brooks has openly shared that he considers Hubbard a "big brother" who pushes him daily in workouts and actively challenges him to grow in his faith. The two bonded heavily over shared hardships on and off the field, a dynamic that ultimately strengthened both of their religious journeys.
Supporting Teammates' Faith Milestones
Hubbard doesn't just talk about his faith—he actively shows up for his teammates. When Brooks and linebacker Princely Umanmielen decided to publicly declare their faith in Jesus Christ through baptism, Hubbard was right there in attendance to support them. Brooks noted that watching Hubbard consistently rely on God through difficult moments served as the primary motivation for his own recommitment and baptism.
Gratitude and Humility
On social media, Hubbard often reflects on his journey with a sense of humility, stating that he sometimes feels unworthy of the blessings God has provided. He has expressed that "no one knows what it took but you Lord," viewing his transition from a dreaming youth to an NFL captain as a completed circle of faith and perseverance.
