Australian international cricketer Marnus Labuschagne is a devout, committed evangelical Christian. He has been very open about how his personal relationship with Jesus Christ grounds his life and identity far beyond his career on the pitch.
His faith manifests in several prominent ways throughout his professional cricketing career:
The Eagle Bat Sticker:
Labuschagne plays with a distinctive sticker of an eagle on the back of his bat. This directly references his favorite Bible verse, Isaiah 40:31: "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.".
Bible Verses in His Shoes:
Growing up, and continuing throughout his early career, his mother would write Bible verses on the inside of his cricket shoes before the start of every season.
Perspectives on Success:
He famously stated that when he prays, he does not pray to win, but rather that he can perform at his best and that all the glory goes to God regardless of the outcome.
Charity Work:
Guided by his beliefs, he serves as an ambassador for Compassion Australia, a Christian charity focused on releasing children from poverty.
