On his official platforms, Field carries the motto "God first, then everything else", pointing to the Bible verse Colossians 3:17: "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

Field did not begin playing competitive volleyball until he was 18 years old. He credits a friend from his local church, Micah Guy, with showing him the ropes of beach volleyball at Doheny State Beach and helping launch his love for the sport.
