Drue Tranquill / LB Kansas City Chiefs
The Childhood Promise: Raised in a Christian household, Tranquill accepted Christ at age 10. At 12 years old, while experiencing severe anxiety, he read Jeremiah 29:11 and wrote a prayer on the back of a poster: "Lord, if you give me the platform so I can influence others, I'll give it all back to you in full." He kept that poster hanging over his bed for over a decade as a reminder of his commitment.
Rejecting "Performance Identity": Tranquill has spoken extensively about a turning point during his freshman year at Notre Dame. He realized that the performance-driven mindset of sports—where approval must be earned—is anti-gospel. Through a teammate-led Bible study, he embraced the unconditional grace of God.
Overcoming Adversity: During his college years, he suffered two torn ACLs and a dislocated ankle. He relies on scriptures like Ephesians 3:20 and Psalm 23 to navigate these injuries and severe childhood anxiety, viewing his trials as tests that build his character and faith.
The Significance of Number 23: When playing for the Chiefs, Tranquill chose to wear the number 23 specifically to honor his favorite Bible passage, Psalm 23 ("The Lord is my shepherd..."), as a reminder that Christ guides him.
